It’s truly amazing how hip-hop has penetrated the world of media over the last 20 years. Will Smith and Queen Latifah started out making records, and then decided to try their hand at acting. Both stars were blessed to have very successful television shows that turned them into Hollywood heavyweights. More hip-hop stars have followed, as MC Lyte, Ice-T, LL Cool J, and Common have turned their acting careers on the small screen into very successful second careers. (more…)
I commend both of these legendary cats for elevating the game and expanding their art beyond hip-hop. In the clip, Com talks how Mos inspires him to start acting. And it looks that it has paid off, as both MCs are on the tube; Common on AMC’s ‘Hell On Wheels’ and Mos on Showtime’s latest season of ‘Dexter.’
It was the perfect way to say goodbye to summer. NYC hip-hop was definitely in the house at this year’s Rock The Bells festival on Governors Island in New York. With Nas, The RZA, and Black Star (Mos Def x Talib Kweli) representing the Golden Era to a sell out crown on Saturday, you couldn’t ask for a better start to the Labor Day weekend. (more…)
