The Godfather of Go-Go music, Chuck Brown, passed away today at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore from complications due to pneumonia. He was 75. Brown created the signature sound of go-go in the 1970s, with it’s heavy reliance on thumping percussion, which was accented by funky guitar riffs, bright keys, and smoky horns. Brown’s music, with the assistance from his group the Soul Searchers, was revered and sampled by many artists. The Washington, DC legend may be best known to today’s generation for his 1970 hit, “Bustin’ Loose,” which was sampled in 2002 for Nelly’s song, “Hot in Herre.” May God comfort and Bless the Brown family.
